Allied Pilots Association Voices Concerns About American Airlines’ “Virtual Merger”

Millions of jobs have been outsourced in America — more than three million since 2001 alone. And millions more are vulnerable to moving overseas in the next few years. Outsourcing America's best-paying jobs has contributed to a general decline in worker living standards.

And outsourcing is not just for information technology and call center-related services. American Airlines wants to jump on the outsourcing bandwagon, and has proposed a joint business agreement with British Airways and Spanish airline Iberia.

The Allied Pilots Association has serious concerns that "virtual merger" agreements with non-U.S. air carriers like the one American Airlines is pursuing will threaten thousands of hard-working Americans’ jobs and result in passengers paying higher fares. A virtual merger could also call into question the country's national security, since the government depends on U.S. airlines to carry troops and supplies in wartime as the nation’s Civil Reserve Air Fleet.
